Lee Drester Wilson
Lee Drester Fraizer Willson was born on Christmas Day in 1910. Lee Drester was a trailblazer in education. She was afforded the opportunity to receive a formal education during a time where many minorities, especially women of color, were marginalized through Jim Crow laws and diminished access to education. Nonetheless, she did not take for granted this privilege. She went on to earn her teacher’s certificate at the Alabama State Teachers’ College (now known as Alabama State University). Lee Drester was employed as a school teacher and principal for 25 years with the Marengo County School System.
Up until her death, she encouraged people, young and old, to pursue their dreams. Her motto was, “it is never too late to learn”. A life lived as Lee Drester Frazier Wilson lived cannot die, but will live on in the hearts, memories, and ideals of all those who knew and loved her. The legacy of Lee Drester Frazier Wilson will forever, live on in our hearts. She was a committed educator, devoted mother, a loving grandmother whose tenacious spirit and selfless attitude will be a continuous reminder of God’s gracious love.
